Block of the Month
Bring your block of the month to the meeting. Each completed block gives you a ballot to win all of the entered blocks!
Patchwork Squares - Due at the June Meeting
Cut a 6” square of fabric from your scrap stash in half diagonally into 2 triangles.
Finger press the triangles in half.
Cut a 1 ½” x 8 ½” inch strip of a contrasting fabric. Finger press the strip in half widthwise.
Stitch triangles to sides of strips, matching folds. Keep a light touch so as not to stretch the bias edges of the triangles.
Finger press the strip in half lengthwise, making sure the fold is EXACTLY in the middle of the strip.
Using a 6 ½ “ square ruler, trim unit to 5” square, aligning the diagonal line on the ruler with the center of the strip. (This is important!) You will be trimming approximately ½ “ all the way around the square and the trimmed corners will be ½ “ per side.
Voila!
Dreaming of Spring - Due at the April Meeting
A super-easy block done in pastels
Cut:
1 - 3" square of fabric A
1 - 3" square of fabric B
1 - 3' x 5 1/2" strip of fabric B
1 - 3' x 5 1/2" strip of fabric C
1 - 3 x 8" strip of fabric C
Sew the two 3" A and B squares together; press the seam to one side. Stitch the 3" x 5 1/2" strip of fabric B to the base of piece unit, press the seam outwards. Sew the second 3" x 5 1/2" strip of fabric C to the right hand side of the unit and press. Then sew the 3" x 8" strip to the bas of ht unit to complete the block. Voila! When you have done four blocks, they are joined so that the squares are at the center of each four-block set.

Half Square Triangle Blocks - Due at the February Meeting
This is the easiest block of the month ever!
Cut a 4" square from two co-coordinating fabrics.
Draw a diagonal line on the wrong side of one fabric.
Put squares right sides together, matching all edges and sew a 1/4" seam along both sides of the drawn line.
Cut along the drawn line and press the seams.

You have now made two 3 1/2" blocks!
Remember, 4 blocks = 1 ticket
Christmas Charm Square Block - Due at the November Meeting
By definition, a charm square is a square of fabric, usually 5", exchanged by quilters to make a charm quilt. The squares are all meant to be from different fabrics - a great way to use up some scraps and perfect for a BOM! This pattern has solid borders and is super-easy. However, measure carefully and use exact 1/4" seams.
Cut a 5" square of Christmas fabric.
Cut two 2" x 5" and two 2" x 8" strips of Christmas green, red or off-white fabric, providing a good colour contrast to the square. The strips may have small patterns but should only frame the square, not draw attention.
Sew the 2" x 5" strips to the top and bottom of the squares, then the 2" by 8" strips to the sides.
Iron carefully so as not to stretch the square, which should measure exactly 8". Trim if necessary.
