Block of the Month

Wish Upon a Stars Quilt

Helpful Hints       Patterns

This quilt is from a page-a-day calendar.  I had great fun doing the paper piecing which was new to me.  The blocks took 1 hour on average, 2 hours for the most complicated, and only a couple hours to put it together.

You will need 5 fabrics plus a backing.  I bought 5 fat quarters but had a lot of fabrics left over so this could easily be made from you stash.

We will have a block each month with 2 in November as we don't meet in December.  This will give us the last block in May and the completed quilts can be brought along to our final meeting in June.

I hope everyone will have fun with this, I did.

If you have any questions don't hesitate to contact me.

Helpful Hints

  • Use non-directional fabrics.

  • Choose a "busy" fabric for the background.

  • Number your fabrics from 1-5.

  • Cut out your paper block adding 1/4" all around.  This way you know your fabric will be big enough.

  • Write the colours on the sheet before you cut along the red line to remember which fabric goes where.

  • Follow the numbers on the block for the sewing order

  • Lay the fabric face down to cut to the shape needed.

  • Trim you square - to 5 1/2 inches before you remove the paper.
